It’s true: Within the next few months, meat may be served within the walls of Michelin-starred vegetarian palace Ubuntu. But a restaurant spokeswoman was quick to clarify today that it’s not changing its plant-centric ethos, and that meat will never show up on the menu there. Instead, guest chefs have been given the green light to use flesh in an upcoming series of “No Holds Barred” special dinners starting early next year, which will be served at the restaurant but not cooked by Jeremy Fox. As SFoodie points out, Fox and Momofuku chef David Chang have a speaking date together at Omnivore Books this Sunday, so it may not be a stretch to expect one of the guest chefs to be the Momofuku master. And while Chang has a reputation as a pork enthusiast, he did recently create a vegetarian feast at New York’s James Beard House, so it’s still a guess as to whether he’ll be the one to break Ubuntu’s carnivorous seal.
