A while back, Todd English announced that he was teaming with former Tao executive chef Sam Hazen, but English ended up opening Juliet with Jon B. As for Sam Hazen, he’s now teaming with La Dolce Vita Hospitality (LDV) to form Sam Hazen Management (SHM). Their first project, Lucy’s Cantina Royale (no relation to the shuttered Lucy Latin Kitchen), opens in midtown on Wednesday.

It’s adjacent to another LDV operation, Local West, and like that pub, it’ll have an elaborate rooftop, this one outfitted with hammocks and tiki huts to replicate a Baja surf cantina. The 200-seat deck won’t be built till next spring, but in the meantime there’s a café on Penn Plaza that seats 50 under a retractable roof. The inside is clearly designed to pack in as many after-work revelers as possible, with surfboard-inspired communal tables and a bamboo bar. Check out Hazen’s Tex-Mex menu below (and see a few dishes in the slideshow). Food is served from 11 a.m. till midnight and will also be available for delivery between 23rd and 42nd Streets and Sixth and Tenth Avenues.
