We depend on chefs to have something clever to say when asked for their hypothetical last meals. As a collection of famous faces rallied in Vegas this past weekend to cook for Emeril Lagasse’s Carnivale du Vin fundraiser at The Venetian, the Las Vegas Sun asked seven chefs to ID their final feasts, with a none-too-surprisingly simple response from Nancy Silverton (a salad and rare steak) to a life-prolonging, fifteen-year global banquet for Mario Batali. Our favorite answer must be chef Kerry Simon’s, who after balking at the thought of his own mortality, appeals to our civic pride by naming In-N-Out Burger foremost as the taste he’d like to die with.
