After forty years at its location in suburban Wheeling — and a whopping ninety years as a restaurant — Don Roth’s Blackhawk (home of the awesome, hypnotic “spinning salad bowl”) has announced that it’s closing at the end of the year, the Tribune reports. With Don Roth’s widow Anne getting up there in years and their children showing little interest in running the business, the family is shutting it down — but they’re expecting a bump in patronage from now until the closure. “I think there are a lot of people for whom the Blackhawk was a part of their lives,” said GM Bob Vorachek. And then a pun: “They’ll want to take one last spin, as it were.” [Tribune]
