The annual Boss of the Sauce competition is coming up Sunday in North Beach, so clear your calendar that afternoon for a whole bunch of gorging on red sauce, wine, and Moretti beer. For those new to the event, this is basically like a chili cookoff for Italian chefs, sponsored by the Italian cultural organization FIERI. Every year all the big red-sauce masters get together in a room full of hot plates and stainless steel pots (this time that’s at Saints Peter and Paul Event Center at 666 Filbert St. in North Beach), and the public comes and judges them while practically licking those little plastic bowls clean. You probably shouldn’t wear white, by the way. New competitors this year include Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, Albona, Joey And Eddy’s, Tommaso, and Berkeley’s Trattoria La Siciliana.
