What to Eat at The Farmer’s Kitchen, Soft Open and Sustainable in Hollywood

SEELA, a local organization committed to raising living standards in Los Angeles which also founded The Hollywood Farmer’s Market, is grand opening The Farmer’s Kitchen this Thursday at noon in The Sunset and Vine complex. The Farmer’s Kitchen will serve as a cafe whose breakfast and lunch menus are mostly sourced from California farmers, as well as a test-kitchen for community cooking and nutrition classes. Call it Hollywood Farmer’s Market: The Restaurant, and you get an idea of what’s being served; mostly sustainable soups, salads, and sandwiches with extra ink letting us know who is behind them, whether its bison meatballs from Linder’s grass-fed flock or free-range chicken from Kendor Farms.

Furthermore, in typical SEELA fashion, everything is kept under ten dollars, allowing the farmer’s frenzy to be open to many more in the mixed income Hollywood neighborhood. The Farmer’s Kitchen is currently soft-open at 1555 North Vine Street Suite 119, Hollywood; (323) 467-7600. Here’s a look at their first lunch menu, which will likely change according to what’s coming from local farms.

Butternut Squash & Sage ~ Powell Farms butternut squash blended w/Kenter Canyon fresh sage.

Roasted Pepper & Noodle ~ Sweet & organic red bell peppers in a vegetable stock w/ noodles.

Roast Chicken Salad ~ oven roasted, free range Kendor Farms chicken, sliced plums, walnuts, sautéed leeks & honey mustard dressing. $9

Eggplant & Pepper Bocconcini ~ roasted eggplant & red peppers rolled over a fresh bocconcini mozzarella. Served over market greens w/ fresh herbs & balsamic vinaigrette $8

Heirloom Tomato, Basil & Chevre ~ Cherokee & Brandywine tomato wedges tossed w/fresh basil, roasted garlic & balsamic vinaigrette. Served w/ fresh Soledad Goats goat cheese. $8

Pesto Chicken Salad ~ roasted free-range chicken mixed with celery & onion in our house pesto aioli. Served with lettuce and tomato. $8

Grass-Fed Bison Meatball Sandwich ~ housemade Lindner Bison organic bison meat balls in marinara sauce, topped with fresh herbs & parmesan cheese. Served warm on a baguette $10
