The Chugging at New Line Tavern Starts Tuesday

As we reported here and here, the folks behind Daily Bar & Grill and Southport Lanes were planning to launch a new bar/tavern concept in the old Powerhouse space (201 N. Clinton) in mid-October. They kept their word and on Tuesday, October 13th, New Line Tavern goes full steam ahead.

The new space is outfitted with cozy booths, black and white photos, a marble bar so long you could almost land a plane on it (note to New Line owners - hopefully you’re on Mayor Daley’s good side - two words: Meigs Field), and stone tile floors. The menu features typical modernized bar fare including a tub of queso fundido filled with tequila marinated onions, tomatoes, and green chilis and Sante Fe eggrolls stuffed with spiced chicken, black beans, and roasted corn. New Line will also serve Tavern Wings slathered with fajita marinade and served with avocado cream dipping sauce.

As such, we smell a wing battle brewing. As we reported earlier on Grub Street, the New Line folks with be sharing the Powerhouse space with a new resaurant Prairie Fire from chef Sarah Stegner. Stegner currently offers spicy chicken wings with homemade ranch dressing at her Northbrook spot Prairie Grass Cafe. We don’t know if she’ll be bringing them to Chicago, but we’d love to see some healthy culinary competition. [Thrillist]
