Chef/owners Hans Rockenwagner and Wolfgang Gussmack are taking it back to the German old school for October, offering traditional Oktoberfest specialties at their 3 Square Cafe that honors the day Prince Ludwig I started the celebration almost 200 years ago. For the occasion, the duo has built a mobile beer tap that will spew fresh Spaten Pilsner and Koestritzer Lager for guests.
Along with giant Rockenwagner pretzels, there is also plenty of sauerkraut and spaetzle (one of Gussmack’s specialties) on-hand. We’d especially like to try their Kassler ribs, which should be deliciously smoky and soft. With a current craze for German sausages spreading across our land (Wurstkuche, Spoc’s, Fifth Amendment, and forthcoming Schmidt’s Brauhaus), we put faith in these two renowned German chefs to get German food right, or at least better than Alpine Village. 3 Square’s Oktoberfest offerings are below.
