In what is sure to annoy the hell out of chefs with restaurants on these streets, the Parking Authority has announced a ban on delivery trucks on Chestnut and Walnut Streets between 6th and 20th Streets, according to KYW, to improve the flow of traffic. Delivery trucks will only be allowed to park between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., after that, they’re prohibited.
After 10 a.m., trucks will have to park in special zones on adjacent streets:
Zones have been established on adjacent streets: 27 truck loading zones and 31 package delivery zones have been established on numbered and small streets so deliveries can be still made after 10am.
Of course, an adjacent street to Walnut (Sydenham) is where restaurateur Susanna Foo had her infamous altercation with a Parking Authority officer, whom she allegedly assaulted - a charge which Foo denied. The case never came to trial and her record was expunged after she performed six months of community service. Foo is now safely ensconced in Radnor, having closed her eponymous Walnut Street restaurant last summer, so we can only wonder what her take on the new rules might have been. Guess we’ll just have to watch Parking Wars for PPA drama instead.
