Weekend

Weekend: Franconian Firkins at Memphis, Hot Cider at Silk City, Stone Crabs at Oyster House

There’s a brief period of time when you will not be watching baseball this weekend. If you can tear your hearts and minds away from obsessing about the Phils, there are other things to enjoy in the Time Between the Games. First up, rare beer!

Memphis Taproom in Fishtown has scored some special firkins of beers from Mahr’s Brau and Brauerei Spezial, among others, all from Franconia, the northern part of Bavaria. They’ll tap five on Saturday, October 17 and six on Sunday October 18. There will be German specials on the food menu for pairing.

Silk City has added hot chocolate and hot cider to their menu. You can have it virgin or doctor it up with spirits. Related: Mark Bee’s famous mulled wine is back at N. 3rd.

Oyster House offers their buck-a-shuck and drink specials during a Saturday night happy hour from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. They are also expecting the first shipment of Florida stone crab claws of the season. The jumbo claws are $14 each.

• If you were planning on attending the Harvest Festival at Reading Terminal Market this Saturday, you’ll have to wait until next Saturday. It’s been postponed due to the lame weather.
