Greg Morris Gives Hollywood The Oaks Gourmet Market, Open Today

Greg Morris, owner of The Belmont, The Spanish Kitchen, and Oak Fire Pizzeria, goes a little heavier on the oak today, opening a new store and cafe called The Oaks Gourmet Market in Hollywood, on Bronson at Franklin. The Oaks is a selectively stocked shop of specialized edibles, paying strict attention to which jars of olives and imported sauces, alligator jerky and black truffles, and international beer and wine it carries. The market, an alternative to the area’s corporate grocery chains, plans to be a place for locals to comfortably poke around inside or kick back on an outdoor patio and check out the passing talent.

The Oaks also roasts it own coffee and will offer a small menu, which Blackburn and Sweetzer tells us features pastries from Cake Monkey and Delilah, plus a few pizzas, some milkshakes, a half-pound burger with pineapple-jalapeno compote, and a pulled pork French dip. Chalkboards detail the daily cheese and beer selections, while a large collection of tequila also has its own showcase. Sounds much nicer than the Victor’s Liquor that it replaces, and somehow remains just as boozy. Good job Mr. Morris! The Oaks Gourmet is at 1915 N Bronson Ave. Hollywood; (323) 871-8894‎.
