Pasadena’s Vertical Wine Bar has hired new professional help to restructure its vino program. David Haskell, former owner of BIN 8945, is stepping in to take the reins of director of operations, a title we’re told he is doing his darndest to change to “wine pimp.” Haskell’s first move was to edit the 400-strong wine list, adding about 80 rotating choices by-the-glass and adding value wines to the list of rarities like Portugal’s 2008 Quinta Alqueve Fernão Pires.

Nightly wine flights will also rotate five selections, with a $30 special for people who want to customize their own flight with Haskell’s off-the-list stash of wines. Also, new monthly wine-pairing dinners will be introduced, beginning November 8th with former Sona sommelier Joshua Klapper and his beautiful small batch La Fenêtre, matching five wines with three-courses for $65, including two unreleased varietals from Klapper. Vertical suggests reservations be made at (626) 795-3999.
