Presidential Eats

Dominique Crenn Cooked for Obama

President Barack Obama dined solo in his hotel room before his big San Francisco fundraiser last week, feasting on short ribs, vegetables, and tuna tartare cooked by Luce chef Dominique Crenn. Scoop reports that Crenn got the call while the president was en route, and Obama e-mailed his selections from the Luce menu. “Obama opted to start with the tuna tartare. He also wanted a medley of vegetables - peas, baby carrots, etc. - and a side of steamed broccoli - all organic, which is the only kind of vegetables Luce uses. The main course was the chef’s specialty: braised Niman Ranch short ribs with haricot verts, little white onions and horseradish.” Luce didn’t make our list of suggestions last week, but obviously it should have. If the presidential confidence wasn’t enough, Scoop reminds us that the restaurant just received its first Michelin star. What a week.
