Who Will Be At Abbot Kinney’s First Food Festival, October 11th

Abbot Kinney finally has its own food festival, A Taste of Abbot Kinney, coming Sunday, October 11th. The $60 ticket price opens up a full five hours of strolling on the chic block, with samples provided by many of its most gabbed about restaurants and bars, including Joe’s, The Tasting Kitchen, Wabi Sabi, Lemonade, Beechwood, The Otheroom, and Primitivo. Liquor tastings are included in the festivities, with a shuttle moving up and down the street for weary (or swerving) feet. The proceeds will benefit Inside Out Community Arts, Venice’s nationally-awarded non-profit that provides free after-school arts programs to middle and high school kids throughout L.A. (with who your narrator here works) Daily discounts will also be available at AK’s trendy boutiques and spas.

Almost as notable as those who are dishing out samples are those who are not. Gjelina and Axe are among the most obvious names that won’t offer food and participate in the event, though we get the sense it’s more from the fear and suspicion of something new, rather than having any particular bones to pick with the organizers.

Karen Kiss of Inside Out encourages locals and the unfamiliar alike to experience the various samples, telling us,”For me, this is really an adventure where you have an entire street to explore. I’ve lived in Venice for years, but have only managed to get to a couple of Abbot Kinney’s restaurants. So this is a chance to try something different at almost all of them, from some of the city’s most exciting kitchens.”

A Taste of Abbot-Kinney will run from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday October 11, 2009. $60 tickets can be purchased on Inside Out’s website.
