Vodka Bar Slated for SOMA

Perusing the permits this morning, we turned over an interesting stone on the 11th Street corridor. The shuttered Fat City is in the process of transferring its liquor license to a company called Vodka from Around the World, which wants to open a joint called Siberia. Since Voda closed down back in March, the city has been without a vodka bar, unless you count places like Katia’s Tea Room out in the Richmond. Which we don’t. Based solely on the name, we’re hoping Siberia will be a vodka geek’s paradise, dealing in obscure brands from far-away parts of the world (like its namesake). With Smuggler’s Cove in the works to close the rum gap, Tommy’s and Whiskey Thieves covering tequila and whiskey, and places like Pisco Latin Lounge doing the Pisco thing, San Francisco is getting close to having a dedicated bar for every major kind of booze. Somebody open a Brandy Library here and some kind of gin joint, and we’ll have a complete setup.
