Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is creating a food policy task force to help Angelenos eat better. LAist stopped by a celebration honoring 30 years of L.A. farmer’s markets outside of City Hall to see what Mayor Tony was plotting. The task force will file a report on where city food sources exist in an effort to help sustainable produce and food supplies reach citizens, while providing recommendations that enhance emergency food stores, school meals, urban access to healthy food, and urban agriculture, among other positives. Famous L.A. chefs, including Michael Cimarusti of Providence, Neal and Amy Fraser of Grace, Angeli Caffe’s Evan Kleiman, Nancy Silverton of Mozza, and Eric Greenspan of The Foundry, were on hand to sign a declaration that they would use locally grown food wherever possible. Sounds like a good idea, let’s just hope the Mayor sees it through past the podium.
