Two openings this weekend are flying in the face of conventional wisdom, the economy, and prevailing restaurant and nightlife trends everywhere. Strongbox — the luxury bottle service lounge that opened in March and then closed in June for the summer — will be reopening on Friday with an appearance by DJ Jazzy Jeff. And then Recess Lounge, the luxury lounge that promises to “be Philadelphia’s most exclusive playground” and to “exceed VIP standards,” is scheduled to open on Saturday in Old City. Kinda takes the current ‘unassuming, low-key restaurant and bar’ trend and turns it on its head. Or maybe the folks behind these two projects just haven’t been paying close enough attention.
