Anniversaries

Richmond’s ‘Home of the Hamburger’ Turns 50

As restaurants around the city celebrate some milestone anniversaries this year (Perry’s turned 40; zuni, Greens, and Hayes Street Grill turned 30; Acquerello turned 20; Foreign Cinema turned 10), the Richmond Blog reminds us that Clement Street stalwart Bill’s Place is logging its 50th year. As much a piece of the neighborhood fabric as Golden Gate Park and foggy evenings, Bill’s is the go-to for burgers, shakes, fries, and general diner/fountain fare. They’re not doing any specials or anything that we know of (it wouldn’t be their style), but it would be worth a trip by just to see what kind of restaurant lasts as an institution in this town. Meanwhile, check out a series of video walk-throughs over on Bill’s website.
