Lower East Side Gets a Gay Piano Bar

We mourned the loss of 87 Bar, but it looks like an equally quirky venue will now occupy 87 Ludlow Street, near Delancey: Uncle Charlie’s, the gay piano bar that nightlife fixture Michael Ng opened a little over two years ago, is currently looking for buff barkeeps. Unlike the Midtown East location, the downtown outpost won’t have a back deck, but we imagine it’ll have the same homegrown vibe, BYOM (bring your own music) karaoke nights, generous drink specials, and pianists performing show tunes, pop, and jazz. And like the uptown location, which is tucked away upstairs, the off-the-strip locale and intimate digs should bring an interesting crowd. We’ll let you know when there’s an opening date.
