• Breaking with critical consensus, Pat Bruno finds the whole show at 33 Club to his liking, in fact going so far as to declare it his favorite Jerry Kleiner restaurant. Everything is superduper, though he doesn’t quite get what makes the “Illinois peach pie” so Illinois-y. [Sun-Times]

• Mike Sula visits a garage-based illegal taqueria somewhere in the southwest suburbs (he declines to divulge the location in order to preserve the heavenly menudo and birria), where the proprietor, Gustavo, runs his backyard-based business like it’s a nonstop family gathering. [Reader]

• Bruno’s also a fan of Honey 1 BBQ. He hails the redundantly “tidy and spotless” aquarium-smoker barbecue restaurant as “mighty good,” going for links and pork spareribs. [Sun-Times]
