The shuttered Joseph Schmidt chocolate shop will continue to be a destination for anniversary and Valentine shoppers as South Bay chocolatier Saratoga Chocolates plans to open its first retail store there. SFoodie relates a statement from Schmidt and Sharffen Berger owner Hershey Co. explaining that while Sharffen Berger was working with Saratoga to sell Saratoga chocolates in its Ferry Building store, the independent chocolatier worked out a sub-lease agreement to open in the 16th Street store. Way to wheel and deal, Saratoga! Get ready for high-end chocolate to resume its rightful place in the Castro later this month.
