Herring Fishing Banned in the Bay

With local salmon already off-limits, and the Dungeness catch still a little messed up from last year’s oil spill, the Bay’s herring supply was supposed to pump some life back into local fishing. Instead, reports the Sacramento Bee, it too is closing. This is the first time ever that the small fishery has had to close, but the herring population is dangerously low due to last year’s Cosco Busan oil spill. Local fishermen support the closure, but it’s got to hurt to be in that business right now. [Sacramento Bee]
