The alternative dieters at Euphoria Loves Rawvolution are helping to develop an alternative form of currency for Santa Monica. The new loot would be good for meals at area restaurants and would offer diners a discount when spending locally, encouraging them to patronize Santa Monica businesses. According to The S.M. Daily Press, Euphoria owner Janabai Amsden enlisted the help of Chris Lindstrom, co-founder of the similar BerkShares program in Western Massachusetts, which has benefit local businesses by offering a five percent discount on each of the new dollars when exchanged for crummy old U.S. ones. Meetings only began last week to discuss the project, but with an abundance of tourist bucks circulating around the 3rd Street Promenade, and the dollar bedraggled, we’re ready to stuff our mattresses with a few.
