East by Northeast, a locavore Chinese-inspired restaurant will open in the former Benatti space in Inman Square, reports Dishing. The restaurant is the first from Phillip Tang, formerly of T.W. Food, Lumiere, and Hungry Mother. Tang plans to get whole pigs from Vermont and use local and sustainable ingredients to create house-made noodles and small plates like roasted pork loin with garlic scape pesto, and a scallion pancake sandwich with braised beef shank and radish. Devra First compares the East by Northeast concept to David Chang’s lauded Momofuku restaurants and, while it remains to be seen if East by Northeast will live up to that high standard, this is an incredibly exciting project. Inman Square is quietly turning into the city’s best restaurant neighborhood.
