Compartes Chocolatier Hosts Lunch Today and Chef vs. City this Friday

Chief chocolate artisan Jonathan Grahm, of Brentwood’s Compartes Chocolatier, is hosting this Friday’s episode of Chef vs. City as a guest-judge, where contestants enter his store and try to guess which exotic ingredients are in the sweets he makes. This cocoa-peddler is cut from a different cloth, infusing truffles with Guinness Stout, jasmine tea, Himalayan sea salt, rose petals, violets, and cactus blossom in colorful patterns of argyle, mosaic, cutesy Jolly Rogers, and stenciled hummingbirds, making this 59-year old shop buzz again with excitement. To celebrate Grahm’s latest taste of televised glory (the shop was recently filmed for The Hills), he is organizing what he calls a “foodie’s dream lunch” today at the store.

“We have a beautiful patio we just built a few months ago. It’s a nice area with a fountain, perfect for hanging out. However, since we don’t serve a full food menu, people tend to not use it very much,” explained Jonathan this morning.

To remedy this injustice, Nom Nom Truck will be busing their banh mi and Vietnamese tacos to the Barrington Ave. store today, and guests are invited to nosh on Compartes’ new patio, almost an arm’s length from the desserts inside. Grahm will show off a few limited edition creations during today’s event, including truffles with sake, Japanese sancho peppers, rosewater, and lemongrass. If you can’t make it or you just can’t get enough of Grahm, the L.A. episode of Chef vs. City shot in his store airs this Friday at 10 p.m. on The Food Network.

Nom Nom Trucks visits Compartes Chocolatier, today from 12-2:30 p.m. 912 South Barrington Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90049 (310) 826-3380.
