This weekend’s Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival promises family-oriented excitement on the level of a small-town homecoming parade. You can ride in a real live Cadillac! Crown and Crumpet“>Crown and Crumpet is putting on a tea party! Cooking demonstrations with a Top Cheftestant! Then you get way down to the bottom of the press release and the real draw of the weekend finally gets a mention: The Hands-Free Ice Cream Sundae-Eating Contest! As you know, we’re big fans of the city’s ice cream sundaes, not the least Ghirardelli’s. This is your chance to see kids (some of them well into their 30s) plunge their faces into massive dishes of ice cream, coming up only for air and victory. With any luck, there might be a reenactment of the pie-eating scene in Stand By Me. Now that’s what small-town life is all about!
