Appleman Changes Mind on San Francisco

Nate Appleman is now arguing in favor of San Francisco as a great food city, even though many here still sting from that backhand he delivered in the New York Times at the beginning of the month: “You put tripe in a bowl and tell them it’s from a humanely raised cow and [San Franciscans] are going to eat it.” In an advertorial post on Eater today Appleman squares off against Angeleno Eric Greenspan, saying “[San Francisco] is the best food city in America because it truly embodies what great food is all about.” So does he mean we’re all about jumping on bandwagons? We’re all about tripe? Well, whatever it is, we get the feeling that the Times captured the “real” Appleman a little better.
