“Eat your heart out, Aspen!” Gavin Newsom said at SF Chefs.Food.Wine’s opening reception last night. The mayor, who was apparently pleased to be talking about something other than MUNI crashes, was joined by an enthusiastic crowd of chefs and tasters. Martin Cate previewed the much-anticipated Smuggler’s Cove, serving up samples of the Dead Reckoning (Flor De Cana 12 Year, fresh lemon, pineapple Navan and maple syrup tawny port). We nearly overdid it on Gitane’s bacon-wrapped prunes stuffed with goat cheese. But much of the buzz swarmed around chef Richard Corbo’s spiced pork sausages deep fried in polenta—we heard more people talking about the “corn dogs” than any other dish sampled at the event. We suspect this will be a hit at his new restaurant, Pizzeria Zanna Bianca, set to open in 2010 at the new Jack London Square Marketplace. See how what else there was to eat by watching the slideshow.
