What to Eat at Ciudad’s New Happy Hour

Photo: Border Grill

Tacos are back at Ciudad, the pan-Latin fusion restaurant that must have felt left out of the current taco renaissance sweeping the city. Original Mex-mixers Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger’s downtown restaurant once had a popular taco menu that inexplicably went bye-bye right before new experiments in Mexican cuisine began under Kogi’s reign. Left with just one taco on the menu, exec chef Jeremy Tummel wisely set about reversing the situation, upgrading taco tradition with Niman Ranch pork chorizo and shishito peppers, cooked fajita-style. Niman Ranch pork and shishito, alas, aren’t cheap, so it’s best to bite these babies at happy hour, when they are only $3 each. At Ciudad’s sister restaurant Border Grill, anyone who gives the secret phrase “Taco Taco” today at happy hour gets a two-for-one taco or jalapeno popper. Check out the full happy hour menu at Ciudad below.
