Starbelly Opens in the Castro

When Starbelly opens today in the old Asqew Grill space in the Castro, it will be the second restaurant from Beretta owner Deborah Blum. It will also be the soft-booze alternative to Beretta’s cocktail mastery. Micheladas, wine cocktails, and a good beer selection define the drink menu, which contains no hard alcohol. As for food, they’re calling it “California comfort cuisine.” Look for burgers and pizzas as well as things like Mt. Tam lamb cheeks and roasted porchetta. Chef Adam Timney (Bacar, Boccalone) reportedly cures his own meats, so you can look forward to a lot of good salty stuff. The place will be open long hours, too: 11 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 10 a.m. to midnight on weekends. Check out the menus on the website, and check out the space today.
