In typical schizo fashion, Royal/T threw a party on Saturday to simultaneously promote four different happenings. The French maid cafe/retail design store/underground art gallery packed their Culver City warehouse with guests, creating a scene more chaotic than a Saturday in Shibuya. “Los Angeles has a huge Lolita scene,” said one regular, stymied while finding a table among legions of grown-up women dressed as barely legal beauty contestants underneath itsy-bitsy hats. All were gathered for a doll’s fashion show, an exhibit by the artist Kaws, a Candyland party promoting Candyfornia fashions, and the cafe’s new superhero-themed menu. Patrons snacked on cotton candy, lollipops, cupcakes, and mini-snickers while out-of-place old men snapped photos of the eye-candy. Take a look at our slide-show.
