The applications were in, the permits filed, and the name all picked out, but it looks like the Mexican restaurant Don Pistos that was to take over the old Lobster Shack space at 532 Green St. will no longer do so. Lobster Shack owner Russell Deutsch told us that the problem was a paperwork snafu. “We couldn’t get all the stuff from the landlord for the lease transfer. He (the would-be tenant) needed to move quicker than we were moving and he found another spot,” Deutsch said. We don’t know where that new spot is, but it seems for now that if you’re in North Beach and want Mexican food you’ll have to go to Rico’s for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, if you’re in the market for a nice shiny restaurant space on Green Street, we happen to know of one.
