Aaron Deal, a former Charleston, S.C. executive chef, is coming to Custom House, reports Food Writer’s Diary. He’s part of what the blog refers to as the restaurant’s “relaunching,” which appears to be a matter of strictest secrecy: a call to Custom House initially confirmed that Chef Deal is coming on board, but followups as to the nature of his involvement (is he coming on as an executive chef or just a line cook? What’s up with current exec chef Shawn McClain?) met with protests of “I can’t confirm anything. I can’t say anything.” The owners of Spring Restaurant Group (who are also behind Green Zebra and Spring) are out of town, and apparently no news about this mysterious relaunch can leak until they say boo. For the time being, we remain mildly intrigued. [Food Writer’s Diary]
