Since we hadn’t yet discovered the location of those secret Dumpster pools, we decided to go to Governors Island this weekend. We have to admit, we skipped the noodles and smoked tofu (?) at Water Taxi Beach for the fried plantains, macaroni and cheese, jerk chicken, roti, watermelon, curry chicken and goat, and peanut punch at the Veronica’s Kitchen stand on the northeast side of the island. What better than taking a Styrofoam container of Trinidadian grub to a hammock for an unbeatable view of the Statue of Liberty? But WTB is looking good, too, as you can see in our slideshow — we spotted ramen lover David Cross there before everyone was unceremoniously booted out around 5 p.m. (there was a ticketed concert). The beach is currently open from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. (and a couple of hours later on weekends). We’ve already shown you the menu, and you can see the ferry schedule here. Go ahead, put your feet in the sand.
