Weekend Fun: Ice Cream Festival; Free Hot Dogs

It rained for three months, then it was gorgeous, now it’s back to normal Philly July: 100-percent humidity with a 99-percent chance of city stank. Here are two tasty ways to alleviate your weather woes and avoid the hot garbage aromas this weekend.

Head indoors to Reading Terminal Market’s annual Ultimate Philadelphia Ice Cream Festival and try samples from Miller’s Twist, Bassett’s and the Franklin Fountain. There will be ice cream eating contests and opportunities to create your own flavors. Saturday, July 18; noon- to 4 p.m. Center Court, Reading Terminal Market; 12th & Filbert Streets

Leave the city entirely. Celebrate National Hot Dog Day on Sunday with free hot dogs at Doghouse Burgers in Downingtown. It may cost you more in gas than the free hot dog is worth, but life is about the journey, right? Sunday, July 19; noon to 8 p.m.; 24 East Lancaster Ave., 610-269-9381
