South Philly Tonight: Pizzalympics, Get Crabby at P.O.P.E.

The Pizzalympics, sponsored by the venerable South Philadelphia Review and presented by your friends (unless you don’t speak English) at Geno’s Steaks, take place tonight at Galdo’s deep in the deepest heart of South Philly.

Celebre’s, FrancoLuigi and, um, Chickie & Pete’s will do battle with some 20 other area pizzerias to see who come out tops in categories like “most delicious crust” and “finger-licking sauce.” While we’re sure pizzazz will make an appearance, don’t expect to see any Neapolitan-style pies at this event. Tickets are $10 and include all-you-can-eat pizza. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Shellfish allergy? Stay far, far away from the P.O.P.E. tonight, where they’ll be serving up crab soup, crab cakes, crab fries and other homemade crab dishes and pairing them with select Bell’s beers, starting at 7 p.m.
