Venice’s Piccolo has superb cuisine; we just feel bad eating their refined Italian while the cast of “non-celebrity, non-rehab” shuffles off the beach to buy lighters at Henry’s Market. Catch us in Carnivale masks then for the upcoming truffle-themed “cena al contrario” or reversal dinner.
The reversal in question is an inside-out wine-pairing that will have diners first choosing their vintages for Chef Roberto Ivan to then create dishes around. A choice of three or five wine dinner is available from a list of about 30 bottles, hand-picked by the restaurant’s sommelier, Pietro Biondi. Each glass will be accompanied by one of the chef’s edible inspirations.
This month’s upcoming dinner on the 29th will find truffles in every dish at Piccolo, which recently expanded into local legend Mark Sponto’s art-space after his passing late last year.
The three-wine, three-plate reversal costs $70; while going for five will run $110. Reservations are now being accepted and are required at 310-314-3222.
