L.A. Named Best Deli Town…Again

Los Angeles is being called the country’s top deli town in Save the Deli: In Search of the Perfect Pastrami, Crusty Rye, and the Heart of the Jewish Delicatessen, a forthcoming exploration by Brooklyn resident David Sax. “Brace yourself New York, because what I am about to write is definitely going to piss a lot of you off, but it needs to be said: Los Angeles has become America’s premier deli city.”

Rob Eshman of The Jewish Journal delights that we’re finally getting our due, backing up Sax’s sure-to-be-controversial claim with a 2002 quote by Jonathan Gold that “Los Angeles might be the best deli town in the country right now.” Sax includes heavies like Canter’s, Greenblatt’s, Art’s, Junior’s, Nate ‘n Al, Factor’s, and Brent’s. Who do you think he is forgetting on our great deli scene?
