When the Cathedral HiIl Hotel closes in October, it will take its restaurant Jack Tar Bar & Grill with it, putting Beer Chef Bruce Patton out of a job. The property owner, California Pacific Medical Center, plans to turn the 400-room hotel into a 550-bed hospital. On Thursday, it sent the 159 employees letters notifying them that the business would close October 31, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

Hotel general manager Mark Everton told us the restaurant will stay open until the last minute. “We’re expecting a very busy September and October so the restaurant will be going full bore right up until the closure,” he said. After that chef Bruce Patton, who has made his reputation pairing food with beer, will need to find another job. Patton is hosting a sold-out beer dinner with Lagunitas Brewing Company and The Chefs Association of the Pacific Coast tonight, and plans at least three more such events before the closure.
