Forbes Traveler Names America’s Best Street Food

We were shocked - shocked! - to read that Forbes Traveler had selected the cheesesteak as one of the best street foods in America. While its legitimate standing on the list is debatable - in Philly a cheesesteak is preferably obtained from a stand or a shop, rather than a cart (although Forbes recommends both Abner’s at 38th and Chestnut and Dom’s at 9th and Chestnut) and is served on a hoagie roll, never “doled out on a hearty sub roll” - the humble sandwich is in respectable company. Chicago hot dog vendors like Byron’s Hog Dog Haus get a hat tip, while in L.A. it’s the dueling fish taco trucks on Olympic Boulevard east of downtown L.A and The Best Fish Taco in Ensenada that are the top picks. Not one, but two New York boroughs made the list: Manhattan for Middle Eastern/South Asian food like the marinated lamb at Kwik Meal, and Queens for Latin fare like the kind served up by the famed Arepa Lady, both of which made New York’s Concrete Elite list.
