Julia Child taught classes at her friend Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School between 1975 and 2000, before it was renamed the Institute of Culinary Education. Embracing recent hype over the film Julie & Julia, ICE has designed a seven-hour affair called “Cooking with Julia: A Film, Cooking Class, and French Supper” for two Saturdays, August 9 and 15. Between 3 and 10 p.m., you watch the flick nearby, return to the classroom to prepare dishes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking (like quiche Lorraine, Bifteck Sauté au Buerre, and crêpes flambées), then eat the results paired with Sancerre and Burgundy.
