We can find almost everything we need to food snob out at Santa Monica’s Gouda and Vines Main Street storefront. Specializing in imported food products, multiple flavors of gelato, gourmet sandwiches, artisanal cheeses, and anytime private wine tastings, its collection of concoctions and labels had us ooh-ing and aah-ing in all the right places. Sadly, the store is shuttering and rather soon.
The only benefit to this loss is a generous 40% discount on most store items, so stock up on sea salt and extra extra virgin now.
Patrons showing up yesterday evening to take advantage of the sale were nearly treated to a much deeper discount when they found the store unlocked, guarded only by a shrieking alarm, but no security or staff in sight.
Had it been a sneaker store, Gouda would have been liberated of its inventory by now and free to move on.
