This Friday marks the Chicago opening of Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner’s hard look at the often shady business that goes on behind the rows upon rows of identical styrofoam-packed pork chops and chicken breasts. In conjunction with the film’s opening, we’re giving two lucky readers Food, Inc. gift packages: a two-book set made up of a copy of the documentary’s companion book (also titled Food, Inc.) and a copy of Eric Schlosser’s groundbreaking Fast Food Nation. To enter, we’re asking you to write a one paragraph defense of your favorite unabashedly processed food — the one product, preparation, or dish that you wouldn’t want to be without, even in a completely green and virtuous world. Email us your opus before 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, and we’ll announce the winners Friday morning.
Update: Gapers Block notes that the Midwest Independent Film Festival is hosting a free screening of Food, Inc. tonight — sign up online and get to the theater early, since they’re intentionally overbooking.
Check out the Food, Inc. trailer, after the jump.
