We’ve already given you a peek through the windows of the Standard Grill, but now that it’s ready to go (it’ll open for dinner next Monday and hopefully for lunch and breakfast the week after that), Balazs and Co. have actually let us in. Details we hadn’t noticed: a floor made of pennies and a chef’s counter allowing the best view of the open kitchen where Dan Silverman will be preparing a daily changing menu. The base menu is still being finalized, but we’re told the average entrée price will be $19 (they’ll be served with a complimentary bowl of carrots and the like). Two appetizers have been confirmed so far: Haricots Verts Salad with Yogurt, Cinnamon, Crispy Shallots; and a Charred Spanish Octopus, Sweet Potato & Chiles. And for mains, we have a Sunburst Farm Rainbow Trout, Currant & Pine Nut Relish; a “Million Dollar” Whole Roast Chicken & Fries for Two, a Berkshire Pork Chop with Spiced Salt, and a DeBragga & Spitler NY Strip with Duck-Fat Smashed Potatoes. The front café will be open for walk-ins while the rear dining room takes reservations for breakfast (6 a.m.–11:30 a.m.), then lunch (till 5:30 p.m.), then dinner (till midnight from Sunday through Wednesday and till 1 a.m. on other days), and then late-night (till 4 a.m.). You heard right — there’ll be a late-night menu served till 4 a.m., plus sidewalk seating, in addition to the courtyard beer garden opening later this summer, on Washington Street. We’ll show you the menu as soon as it’s finalized.
