Fun fact: convicted sex offenders are currently allowed to work on ice cream trucks. Fortunately, State Senator Michael Knapik is proposing to ban convicted sex offenders from manning the vehicles, reports the Herald. Knapik’s proposal would require anyone applying for an ice cream truck permit to submit their photograph to the state and undergo fingerprinting and a background check. Though some balk at the fingerprinting, the measure seems to have fairly wide support. Incredibly, only two states currently ban what the Herald calls “popsicle predators”: Oklahoma and New York. New York’s ban came after an incident involving a driver for a truck called (and we are not making this up) Mr. Ding-a-Ling. Knapik’s bill is set to go up for debate tomorrow afternoon.
