The inaugural Iron Cupcake Chicago taste-off was held last night, with Chicago Biteslocal podcasters Bridget Houlihan and Tammy Green judged the competition, for which the only thematic criterion was the inclusion of citrus. A ruby-red cupcake with avocado icing from baker Nichole Lapointe was declared the winner, with runners-up Tracy Vasquez (straight-up blood orange) and Heather Sennett (a dark chocolate-orange Hostess-inspired cake). The event was such a success that organizers are planning to repeat it on a monthly basis. [Chicago Bites]
