Eat the Plants at the New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden kicks off a summer-long exhibition called “The Edible Garden” next weekend when Martha Stewart (who designed a culinary herb garden on view), Dan Barber, and Johnny Iuzzini, among others, will give gardening tips and cooking presentations. Before you go, download the audio tour led by Mario Batali (with help from Barber) to listen to throughout the series of gardens and installations. There’s a “Tropical Fruits, Roots, and Shoots” display in the Victorian glasshouse; a kid-friendly “Pizza Garden” and “Breakfast Bowl Bed”; a gallery of heirloom-tomato photos by Victor Schrager; and a “Beginner’s Vegetable Garden” exhibit to encourage newbie gardeners. We’re most excited about a cooking (and drinking) series. Starting July 9, chefs including Anne Burrell and Sara Moulton will host demos on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m, all included in the $20 general admission. The full schedule is below.
