When it comes to restaurant ambience, the soundtrack is everything — but Blue 13 is taking musical accompaniment to a whole ‘nother level with their upcoming series of rock-star-inspired dinners. The series launches tomorrow with a culinary homage to Weezer — the $50 prix fixe is comprised entirely of dishes inspired by the band’s songs:
“Keep Fishin’”: Quick-poached Kona Kampachi, pickled vegetables, aromatic fish fume
“Surf Wax America”: Deconstructed California roll: Asian crab salad, rice cake, avocado mousse, seaweed gelee surfboard, pickled ginger wasabi foam
“El Scorcho”: “Half Japanese” pork belly duo, blue cheese mousse, tomato bacon jam, brioche toast, ginger vinaigrette, braised bok choy
“We Are All on Drugs”: Steak and egg on acid [We’re calling a little bit of foul here, as this is Blue 13’s signature dish — an unfair workaround?]
“Only in Dreams”: Rhubarb parfait, chocolate dust, spiced raspberry paint, marscapone “clouds,” chocolate brittle gel
The dinner is tomorrrow, July 1, at 7:15 pm, and will be assuredly more tasteful than New York restaurant City Winery’s Michael Jackson tribute dinner. For reservations, call 312 787 1400.
