Video: Behind The Plywood At Passion Cafe

The long-awaited Passion Cafe will open on Sixth Street in about five weeks, bringing with it the city’s second rooftop dining area, after Medjool. We found this Youtube video of developer Steve Barton and his construction crew working on the space, giving us a look at the newly exposed brick walls, the dining room, and the underground prep area. This building, on Sixth and Stevenson streets, used to be a pawn shop. Barton sort of addresses the question of why one would open a fancy new restaurant with rooftop views in one of the most crackhead-intensive parts of the city: He thinks the area is due for a renaissance as a dining strip. For now, though, there’s going to be one wacky view from that roof.
