The Weekend Critics: Three Bells For Chifa; Middling Marks For Girasole

• Craig LaBan crowns Chifa the new wave of Asian fusion, and heralds the restaurant’s opening as “the full-circle bookend” to what Susanna Foo started 20 years ago. Though fusion can be tricky, at Chifa, “there are simply so many stunning flavors here, starting with the addictive yucca-flour cheese buns (pan de bono) in the complimentary bread basket, it’s nearly impossible not to leave impressed.” [Inquirer]

• At Girasole, “the hodgepodge Italian menu and inconsistently executed dishes won’t draw Philadelphia’s most devoted diners,” writes Joy Manning, and continues, “the dated menu would be forgivable if dishes were reliably executed.” They’re not, however, and the reopened pre-theater spot earns a B- for food.
